Around the world, all kinds of charmed stones and other enchanted materials assisted witches with sorcery. Sorcerers in Bakunini much preferred staves, if they had to chose. Anything practical and a little fancy suited Bakunini residents just fine. But even then, most magic in the capital was a means to an end. Witches went to university to study high magic, history, and theory, to learn how magic materials were made, but never to actually enchant, build, and create themselves. With all her time in the city, Afia hardly knew how to enchant or charm anything, and she knew little about folk spells and the bases of potion-making. She had a feeling she would be learning much more about magic in her time abroad than she ever did in university.
